I have a few minutes to kill and was thinking.  I have so many reasons to be thankful, and have often found time only to complain.  I have focused so much energy on what I don’t have and what I’ve lost.  I just want to acknowledge some of the things that I am thankful that I have in my life.

I am thankful for my children. I truly have three of the greatest human beings as my children.  They continue to amaze me every day.  Just when I think that I miss them as they were in the past, I am reminded of the people they are now and I feel very proud.  Forever they will be the love of my life.  I am truly blessed.

I am thankful for the woman that was by my side for so very long. We grew and learned together, and we figured out this thing called life.  I would not be the man I am today if we had not been married.  I will always cherish what we had, and there will always be a warm place in my heart for her.   She is truly an amazing woman, and she has grown very much in the last few years.  We had many happy years together and of course brought those three amazing souls to the world.  I don’t know where our paths will take us, but I will be forever grateful that I married the woman of my dreams.  I hope she finds the happiness that has been missing from her life.

I am thankful for all the family members that have brought so many different flavors to my table. I love them all and have learned from them.  This goes for my childhood family and also my in-laws.  So many times people are not thrilled with the family they marry into but that could not be farther from my experience.  My in-laws and all of their families will be part of my family forever.

I am thankful for the friends that have been part of my life in the past as well as the present. I have always been fortunate to be very social and there are so many people have touched my life.  At times friendships can be taken for granted, but there is truly a special connection between good friends.

I am thankful for the house that I have called home for the past ten years. It may not be perfect, but in my heart it is close.  I know that there are more things to fix, but they will get done.  When they are, I will feel a great sense of pride.  Not all of this work will have been done by me.  My father has done quite a bit, as well as my neighbor.  Steph and her mother have just done a wonderful job repainting her room and the side entrance.  All I know is that the house we own now will always be “home”.

I am thankful for the new job that I have started. There are some great people that I am working with and some exciting things that I am learning.  I am glad that I changed jobs, but am still thankful for the last job I had.  For 16 years it was our main source of income.

I am thankful for good health. Many people have had major health issues in their life.  I have been fortunate to have had good health to this point.  I am thankful for the health of all the people in my life, but I must mention a special person.  About 11 years ago my mother-in-law was diagnosed with breast cancer.  She had a mastectomy and chemotherapy. We nearly lost her.  I am especially thankful that she is still with us and a big part of our lives.  I don’t know where we would be without her love to teach and guide us.

I am thankful for little things also like music, sports, laughter, love, and many others.  We should all take time every day to say a word of thanks for the things that we have in our lives.
